ANIMAL PRIDE

A Villanelle

we are animals and proud of it
no need for self actualization
with all these flaws we won't admit

to ourselves we won't commit
our knowledge we must ration
avoid controversy this unfit

curse each blasted misfit
philosophy is out of fashion
they possess a poisoned wit

on high horses they all sit
with all their useless passion
their thoughts are of no benefit

they point fingers at the culprit
it is he who takes no action
that his god does not permit

we fight and will not quit
at crosses we hold our station
our ignorance is bliss, we acquit
we maintain our callow nation
