GOODBYE KISS

you drown, pulled down by regrets
that you just can't live with now,
kneeling down to pray for peace,
seems you have forgotten how.

when, my friend, was the last time
you kissed your mother goodbye?

she thinks she's mary poppins
but she's a spoonful too sweet
drifting off on umbrellas
she won't land on those two feet.

when, my friend, was the last time
she taught a hippo to fly?

your weapons are all useless
choked with vulnerability,
you reach out for compassion
and receive only pity.

when, my friend, was the last time
you said you wanted to die?

you plan your clever escape,
pack your things and board the train
your pockets, they are empty,
you have everything to gain.

then, my friend, was the last time
you would miss a kiss goodbye.
